Training and Resources

Resources
Intermediate and senior phase is where learners read to learn (across the curriculum), and a bridge to the very challenging FET phase.
The purpose of the LitPro resource is to scaffold senior phase learners to read for meaning, focussing on all the skills, sub-skills and strategies needed to read with comprehension across the curriculum. Resources are teenage-friendly and learner-centred. Even the name of the programme is a play with words referring to the teenage colloquialism being “lit” meaning you are awesome and “pro” meaning you are good at something!
LitPro aims to improve the literacy and therefore academic results in our country.
Training
The training workshops will upskill intersen teachers/tutors with effective strategies and techniques needed to read with comprehension.
In the workshops, participants will unpack and develop the skills and sub-skills/strategies needed to read with understanding and to then transfer and apply this across the curriculum using the learner workbook and learner’s own textbooks. It is critically important to intervene before learners are bombarded with a heavier workload and more challenging content.
The training is in person, a mixed mode or blended learning/training model with continued support via a virtual classroom.
